Titanic Tragedy Commemorative Event - Sun 15th April 2012
Carrickfergus Sailing Club
Event to mark the Titanic Tragedy 14/15th April 1912
April 15th 2012 is one hundred years since the sinking of the Titanic. The Club proposes to hold dignified event to mark the tragedy.
Since the day falls on a Sunday it would be possible for a marine event to take place. It is, of course early in the year and we cannot know the weather. High tide that day is 20.09 BST. The event should involve using our boats and the Clubhouse.
Suggested Itinerary
1045 Boats muster at No 11 Channel marker
1100 Boats process in line to No. 1 fairway buoy to mark the passage of the vessel down Belfast Lough (on 2nd April 1912). Boats keep just north of the channel to avoid inconvenience to shipping.
1300 Boats process from No.1 buoy to gather in front of the clubhouse.
1400 Short service onshore at the clubhouse. A Brass Band will be invited to play hymns and a wreath will be laid in the water as mark of respect. A junior member will be asked to lay a wreath in remembrance of the 52 children who were lost.
1500 Reception in Clubhouse.
If the weather conditions were really bad the service and wreath laying would happen onshore followed by the reception.
