CSC is blessed with some very talented young sailors who are competing at National and International level e.g. Ryan Seaton in the Laser Standard Rig, Chris Penney in the Laser Radial Rig and Ryan Wilson in the Topper Class. The Management Committee has decided to set up a fund to help assist any young sailors from the Club who are competing at advanced levels in our sport. To this end the Committee will be making a sum of money available to start the fund off. We are aware that many Members are also keen to see our young sailors excel at a high level and to this end we would welcome any contributions that Members would wish to make to the fund.
If you are able to help please contact the Honorary Treasurer and ensure that any donations are detailed for the fund.
As you will know the Club was one of the 15 organisations short listed from Stage One of the Elite Facilities Programme. We have also been successful in being awarded financial assistance from SNI to complete the business case for the Stage Two application. However, the total cost of the successful applications came to £70 million. This is considerably more money than SNI has available to them. SNI have made a business case to the Department of Finance for extra funding and they have advised all applicants that no work can commence on Stage Two Applications without consent from them.
This is very frustrating for all concerned but as soon as information becomes available all Members will be advised.
Every year there is a considerable amount of work to get the Notices of the AGM/SGM out to members. As the Notice has to be posted "at least fourteen days before the date" this work is taking place at a very busy time of year for many people. For all sorts of good reasons in the past there has been a slippage of one sort or another. Previous Honorary Secretaries will confirm the problems.
This year, for example, as the AGM is on 16 January Notices have to be posted on or before 02 January which often requires work during Christmas week. This is a time when most people have family commitments and volunteers for envelope stuffing are difficult to coordinate.
This year we are hoping to have the Notices posted pre Christmas Day but the same problems still exist in the run up to the Big Day.
Another real problem is that the sailing season starts so early in the year and the incoming Committee have little time for preparation.
By putting the date back to November or December this gives the new Management Committee more time and by not specifying a particular day the outgoing Management Committee more flexibility.
We will be taking steps to ensure that the accounts will be available for the earlier date.
The problem was discussed at the recent Management Committee meeting and the resolution to change the Rule was agreed unanimously.
