Notice of Race
1. Rules
1.1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
2. Eligibility and Entry
2.1. The regatta is open to all boats of the Laser SB3 classes.
2.2. There must be a full or associate member of any District Association of the Laser SB3 Class on board whilst participating in the event.
2.3. Any changes of helm during the event must be applied for in writing and agreed by the Race Committee in writing in advance of the change being made.
2.4. Eligible boats may enter by completing the attached form and sending it, together with the required fee, to Carrickfergus Sailing Club, Rodgers Quay, Carrickfergus BT38 8BE by 17th April 2009, or online using Paypal.
2.5. Late entries will be accepted under the following conditions:Payment of a surcharge.
2.6. All competitors will be required to declare their total crew weight and ISAF sailor classification of helm and crew on the entry form. If you do not have an ISAF sailor classification, you can obtain one on www.isaf.org by filling out the online form. If you do not present a current ISAF classification at registration, you will be assumed to be a Group 3 sailor for the purpose of points scoring under the SB3I ranking rules.
3. Fees
3.1. Required fees are as follows: £60/€70
3.2. Other Fees:
Late Entry Surcharge: £30/€35
Crane Launching: £40/€45
Dinner tickets: £15/€17
4. Schedule
4.1. Registration: Friday 1st May from 18:00 to 21:00, Saturday 2nd May from 09:00 to 10:00
4.2. Briefing: Saturday 2nd May 10:00
4.3. Dates of racing: Saturday 2nd to Sunday 3rd May 2009
4.4. Number of races: seven
4.5. The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 12:00 on Saturday and 11:00 on Sunday.
5. Measurements
5.1. Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate.
6. Sailing Instructions
6.1. The sailing instructions will be available on 25th April by email and on the club website.
7. Venue
7.1. Boats will be moored in Carrickfergus Harbour or Carrickfergus Marina depending on numbers.
7.2. Launching and Recovery will by crane into Carrickfergus Harbour/Marina or by slip into Carrickfergus Harbour
7.3. The Racing Area will be the area to the South of Carrickfergus Sailing Club.
8. The Courses
8.1. The courses to be sailed will be as follows: Windward/Leeward.
9. Penalty System
9.1. Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.
10. Scoring
10.1. Two races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
(a) When fewer than four races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
(b) When four or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
11. Radio Communication
11.1. Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
12. Prizes
12.1. Prizes will be given as follows: Overall First, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Overall, along with Silver and Bronze Fleet winner prizes will be awarded.
13. Disclaimer of Liability and Insurance
13.1. A boat is entirely responsible for her own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing, whether in the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility.
13.2. It is for the boat to decide whether she is fit to sail in the conditions in which she will find herself. By launching or going to sea, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and her crew is competent to sail and compete in them.
13.3. The boat is required to hold adequate insurance and in particular to hold insurance against third party claims in the sum of at least £2m sterling.
13.4. Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the boat nor will it make the organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the boat taking part in racing. The organisers encompass everyone helping to run the race and the event, and include the organising authority, the race committee, the race officer, patrol boats and beach masters.
13.5. The provision of patrol boats does not relieve the boat of her responsibilities.
