As an R.Y.A. recognized training centre, Carrickfergus Sailing Club offer an extensive range of R.Y.A. sailing courses and powerboat courses to cater for everyone’s needs.
With qualified and friendly instructors we create a safe and fun environment for all ages to relax and learn how to sail, getting the most out of their course.
Carrickfergus Sailing Club provide excellent clubhouse facilities, with friendly staff. The restaurant and bar overlooks Belfast Lough, so you chill out in the club house and watch all the sailing activity on the Lough.
The club generally runs week long courses during the summer during the school holidays for younger sailors.
Courses for adults are generally run on demand throughout the year over a few weekends or during the week based on demand.
Kids love sailing almost as much as they love falling in the water. Here at Carrickfergus Sailing Club our aim is not just to get youngsters up and going, but also to really get them into sailing and to experience the amazing buzz you get from doing it.

Throughout the year Carrickfergus Sailing Club will be running powerboat courses, on demand for anyone who is interested.

This course is an introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, and everyday boat handling, the use of safety equipment and background theory.
You require no previous experience.
Once completed you will be able to drive a powerboat under supervision.
Course duration is a day.
Minimum age is 8. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued an endorsed certificate.
This course provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.
The course includes launching, mooring, anchoring and recovery, plus all the boat driving skills required for basic competence in a powerboat.
No previous knowledge is required.
The course duration is 2 days, after which you will be self-sufficient in the skills of power boating, be aware of your own limitations and that of the craft.
The minimum age is 12. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued an endorsed certificate.

We will be running some junior sailing courses commencing in July. We have two definite dates for RYA YSS Stages 1&2 for junior sailors aged 8-16. These are week commencing Monday the 2nd July and week commencing Monday 23rd July. If you would like to book a place for your child or you know of any juniors who would be interested in learning to sail please email training@carrickfergussc.org
We also plan to run some RYA adult sailing courses in the Bahia’s.
These courses will hopefully begin in May and will take place over a weekend.
There are two RYA NSS Levels 1&2 courses scheduled to be run on the weekends of 26th & 27th May and 9th & 10th June 2012.

Dinghy coaching will take place on Sunday the 4th and 18th March from 10am to 12.30.
There will be two groups - beginners and intermediates running alongside each other with two separate CSC coaches.

Carrickfergus Sailing Club, in conjunction with Belfast Lough Sailability and Carrickfergus Sea Cadets, is holding a Sail for Gold event on Sunday 3rd June 2012 at Carrickfergus Harbour to support and promote the sport of sailing in the run up to the forthcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The event is free of charge and will encourage would be sailors to Try a Boat and get out on to the water. The event will coincide with the Olympic Torch Relay which will be travelling through Carrickfergus and will support a wide range of activities available on the day.
Carrickfergus Harbour sits under the gaze of the historic Norman Castle and is an ideally safe and picturesque venue for first timers on the water. Buoyancy aids will be provided for all participants and Safety Patrol boats will oversee the entire event. Sailing dinghies, Ribs and Motor Launches with experienced helmsmen will operate from the harbour slipway offering ‘Try a Boat’ taster session for everyone – NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. This event will provide an opportunity for all ages, abilities and disabilities to experience the fun and fulfilment experienced through sailing and water sports.

Belfast Lough Sailability are providing six Access dinghies, specially adapted for people with disabilities but enjoyed by people of all abilities. In addition, their Sea Rover, a motor launch, has full wheelchair access.
Carrickfergus Sailing Club are providing six Topper dinghies, Ribs and a motor launch for this taster ‘try a boat’ session. Carrickfergus Sea Cadets provide additional safety boats.
