- 7th – 14th August – Improvers – Stages 3 & 4
The 5-day course is £230 per non-member and £190 for existing Members.
This fee covers 7 hrs per day, RYA YSS Log Book and certificates. Buoyancy aids are available on request.
Members must include their membership numbers on application and non-members will be able to take advantage of membership with the club for the remainder of the year. This enables the children to use club dinghies with permission and whilst under supervision.
The Club reserves the right to reject a registration on the basis of suitability to the course. Previous sailing experience in addition to any Courses taken to date will be the determining factor.
All courses will begin at 9.30 am each day and continue until 4.30pm with a break for lunch from approx 12.30pm to 1.00pm.
For convenience, it is advisable that each child brings a packed lunch.
Children must not leave the Clubhouse area unless parents have prearranged this with the Senior Instructor in attendance.
They must be collected on time and if not by a parent, ensure the Senior Instructor is informed of the alternative arrangements.
All children taking part in the Sailing Courses should be at least 8 years old and a competent swimmer.
They must wear personal buoyancy.
Children should also wear a wetsuit, appropriate boots or shoes and a spray top or a waterproof windbreaker and have a hat available.
A full change of dry clothes is essential.
You are advised to visit the Club before the course dates and make your child familiar with the surroundings.
If using your own boat you must be able to present your insurance certificate prior to the course commencement on request and a declaration of use.
The Club mandates the use of safety helmets for the beginner course, Stage 1/2 up to the successful completion of Stage 2 level.(These are provided by the Club). Please note this is not mandated by the RYA for RTC (Recognised Training Centres). There is general awareness on the use of helmets now for cycling, skiing, and kayaking activities to help prevent concussion related incidents. The training schemes will also aim to prepare your children to sail without the helmets. This has proved very successful and supported by many Parents.
Beginners will receive a RYA Youth Sailing Scheme logbook.
An RYA Start Sailing manual may be purchased.
Juniors that completed stage 1 & 2 in previous years that have not logged hours in their logbooks since the last course will not automatically move up to stage 3.
We encourage children to sail following the courses. If this did not occur they will not be ready to undertake stage 3 which assumes your child can rig their boat and sail with confidence. Please refer to their logbook for a full description of the stages.
Additional information can also be found on the RYA Website: www.rya.org.uk.
Please review the rules of the Club and Safeguarding procedures, Data & Social Media Policies.
All bookings should be made on-line through our Eventbrite page.
We look forward to seeing you at the Sailing Club.
If your Child has attended previous courses please ensure they bring their logbook to the course.
Certificates are normally awarded at the end of each week’s course.
